Podcast Episodes

Welcome back to the Battered Souls podcast with Dylan Charles.

Ceremony has been an important part of my life for the last 15 years, and for this episode I speak with my teacher and good friend Jonathon Miller-Weisberger about the details in preparing yourself for a proper yagé ceremony.

Jonathon is the owner and propietor of Ocean Forest EcoLodge in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, the author of Rainforest Medicine, and an accomplished facilitator and steward of the Secoya tradition of the Upper Amazon.

As an ethnobotanist and conservationist, Jonathon has a world of knowledge about plants and wildlife, sharing his wisdom with those called to experience this ancient, sacred medicine.

In this episode we discuss many aspects of preparing for a proper ayahuasca ceremony in body, mind, spirit, set and setting.

Alright everyone it’s been a long time since I’ve published an episode, as I’ve been focused on other things. Super happy, though, to be back with this light and deep conversation about the African shamanic plant medicine, Iboga.

Amber Antonelli is my guest. Iboga provider, Bwiti initiate, and Co-founder of Awaken Your Soul Iboga retreats in Costa Rica, Amber shares her insight and wisdom on the transformational power of this extraordinary plant medicine.

If you are feeling the call to experience iboga, I encourage you to reach out to Amber at Awaken Your Soul. She has my highest endorsement for her training, sincerity, and presence.

You can visit her personal website at Amber Antonelli.

Peace and Power,

_Dylan Charles

When I last had Jenny on my show in 2020 it was right as the pandemic was setting in, and my how things have changed. She’s been working in the recovery space in Colorado and also spent time in Africa to complete her iboga provider training, and I thought her insight on the importance of sobriety and how it relates to shamanism would be a useful conversation for many of you out there.

Please catch Jenny at the links below, and stay tuned for the upcoming release of a new project she is working on. I’ll share details on that soon.

Peace and Power,

_Dylan Charles

In this episode I had the pleasure of talking with Steven Twohig of Mastering Change. He has a unique perspective on psychedelics and the plant medicine Ayahuasca, and is currently focused on psychedelic integration with an emphasis on shadow work.

He is affiliated with Soul Quest Ayahuasca Church in Orland, FL, and I got a chance to ask him about some of the methods and modalities they use there that give contemporary Westerners access to the healing and transformational power of this ancient plant medicine.

In this episode of Battered Souls I speak with psychotherapist and healer Gerard Artesona. Gerard has a long history of working with ayahuasca, and uses these experiences to shape his perspective in his personal psychotherapy practice.

We talked about his story of growing up in a somewhat dysfunctional family and feeling like an outsider, his work with clients, his perspectives on psychology, and how ayahuasca has changed his life.

Enjoy!

In this episode I spoke with 10th generation Bwiti Shaman, Moughenda Mikala, who is the global steward of the ancient African medicine tradition of Iboga. I met Moughenda in 2013 and had the great honor of participating in a proper ceremony with him, and I find his wisdom and perspective on the value of life is invaluable for these times.

It truly was an honor to speak with him. He lives and works in Gabon, Africa, and in this conversation we talk about what it really means to connect with your soul and how this experience can change the course of your life for the better.

Enjoy!

I’m fascinated by the stories of people who’ve succumbed to the pressures and suggestions of this toxic world and have fallen down in life, only to get back up, take full responsibility for their comeback, and then go on to use their experience to be of positive influence to others.

Biohacker, author, podcaster and businessman Jay Campbell and I recently met, and I was immediately inspired by his abundant energy, focus and commitment to improving the lives of people in many unique and powerful ways.

I asked Jay to join me to talk about his story, and am honored that he shared some of these experiences for the first time on Battered Souls. He’s a brilliant, motivating, and genuinely nice guy, and I hope you get a lot out of our conversation.

In this episode of Battered Souls I had the extraordinary opportunity to speak with activist and survivor Ali Zeck. Ali is one of the most articulate and outspoken advocates for medical sovereignty and truth in our world today.

As a survivor of psychological and psychiatric abuse, Ali spent decades being told she had a mental illness, and was on a devastating roller coaster of treatments, psychiatric wards, and psychotropic drugs that almost drove her to take her own life. When she finally found a doctor who told her she did not have a mental illness, it changed everything and empowered her to finally heal herself.

Unfortunately her story is not that uncommon, so now Ali inspires others as a ferocious truth-seeker and truth-teller.

In this episode I talk with ethnobotanist and steward of the ancient Secoya Yagé tradition, Jonathon Miller-Weiseberger to talk about the experience of drinking sacred medicinal brew at Ocean Forest EcoLodge in Costa Rica. Jonathon is a good friend of mine, and my teacher of this cultural treasure, and also the author of Rainforest Medicine: Preserving Indigenous Science and Biodiversity in the Upper Amazon.

Jonathon is hosting an upcoming retreat, April 25th – May 2nd, for those who are called to experience this powerfully transformative medicine in a proper jungle setting at one of the most incredible locations in the world.

You can find out more about that HERE.

I’ve spent a lot of time at Ocean Forest over the last 11 years, and I’ve witnessed first hand the amazing healing and connection that takes place here. Jonathon shares the medicine tradition (ayahuasca) of the Secoya, a small tribe in the upper Amazon, and we talk in detail about what it’s like drink with proper Secoya elders in such a pristine and preserved location on the beach in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.

I cannot say enough good things about the experience he offers, and if you have any questions about whether or not it’s right for you, please email me at editor@wakingtimes.com.

In this episode of Battered Souls, I speak with addiction success coach, Joe DiBianca, who helps people strike the root of their addictions by helping them to deeply understand why they do what they do. This is a fascinating topic for me, as addiction has been a recurring theme in my life, and certainly one of the main ways in which I have sabotaged my own success and happiness.

Joe’s approach is unique in that he looks at how the mind and body create a connection over traumatic events, then guides people to separate their feelings from the events that shaped them. In my experience this is a powerful way to develop emotional awareness, and makes letting go of the stories about feelings much easier, crating space for major change to come in.

Joe has been a professional body builder, and shares his experience in this sport which could have killed him because it values looks over health, and causes athletes to engage in extremely dangerous dieting patterns and dehydration which wreaks havoc on the body.

Peace and Power,

_Dylan Charles
